Today’s corporate networks are similar to an inefficient road network system. Traffic jams typically occur at the busiest times affecting everyone on route. Corporate networks experience similar problems with their IT networks, the increase in network traffic affects business critical processes from being completed timeously through slow and unresponsive systems. This has a huge, costly lag affect on an organisation’s ability to be productive and compete effectively.
Networks carry all business communications and data and therefore a company is only as reactive as its IT network allows. Most companies faced with this paralysing issue typically upgrade their network and communications infrastructure to allow for more capacity, this however only results in increased internal abuse and is costly exercise with no real improvement in network efficiency.
LucidView’s Guardian Solution has a different approach to managing network traffic. Firstly, In order to manage an IT network effectively, network traffic must be visible and understood. Visibility allows the Network Administrator and IT Security Officer to:
- Manage the company’s bandwidth through constant monitoring and shaping.
- Eliminate and manage all employee network and internet usage and abuse by enforcing policies.
- Manage network security through visibility, audit trails and alerts.
Our solution bridges the gap between defined business policies and the ability to effectively deliver against those policies.
About the Solution
THE LUCIDVIEW GUARDIAN SOLUTION:
- Is a highly integrated network diagnostic and bandwidth management tool that features unique solutions to problems facing virtually every network today.
- Features a central management point where network traffic can be monitored and fine-grained prioritization can be applied. Sophisticated trend analysis can easily be performed over long periods of time to provide critical capacity planning data, like how much bandwidth is still available or how a new server or service would impact the current bandwidth usage.
- Monitors the network in real time, network anomalies can be traced as soon as they occur.
- Prioritizes different network services right down to an expression matching the URL. This allows the flexibility to map business rules directly to network priority: media files that are business related receive a higher priority than files that are not for example.
- Configures traffic priority or firewall rules according to the geographical location of the host IP address. This is ideal for cases where local and international traffic needs to be handled differently.
- Becomes part of the normal end-user experience of the casual user of the network.
- Provides transparent, secure, Kerberized authentication with an Active Directory, linking user credentials to network traffic with no added host software or configuration needed. Each user is able to view their web browsing statistics, network bandwidth usage, cache efficiency, estimated time spent using the Internet and many other variables via the interface. In companies where the management structure has been mapped in the Active Directory a feature is also available allowing managers to view the statistics of their subordinates.
- Features a mail relay with sophisticated logging capability. Errors in the mail setup can easily be traced and problem email servers can be identified. Detailed reports can give a breakdown of all the email traffic passing through the relay with several useful summaries added.
