LUCIDVIEW CONTENT MANAGEMENT SERVICE

The LucidView Cloud service is an Internet DNS service. To access this service, Organisations simply need to direct all upstream Internet resolutions to the LucidView Internet DNS Servers. Once upstream traffic has been directed to the LucidView Internet DNS servers, the Organisation is able to effectively manage what content is allowed onto their network via the LucidView cloud service administration Interface  Using this service,  Organisations are able to manage  what content may flow into the  Organisation.  The following categories are available to Organisations using this service.

CATEGORIES AVAILABLE

This organisation has the ability to easily select one, many or all of the following categories to block:

• “safe mode” on YouTube and Google

• Adult

• Malware

• Phishing

• Web Anonymizers

• Movies (Movies and TV series)

• Google apps

• YouTube

• Facebook

• Gambling

 

MISCLASSIFICATION FEEDBACK

If in the unlikely event an Internet site has been mis-classified, and that particular category has been blocked, end-user’s are able to report such a situation on line directly to LucidView, for rapid correction (within an hour).

 

CUSTOM WHITE & BLACK LIST OPTIONS

The LucidView Content Management service provides the Organisation with the ability to create a Whitelist of domains based on that Organisation’s specific Internet usage policies.  The Whitelist is a list of domains deemed acceptable by the Organisation even if that domain falls into a blocked category.

In short, Organisations have the ability to create exceptions to the rule where necessary.

A Blacklist is a list of domains defined by the organisation’s administrator that are always blocked.

 

CONTENT PROFILES

As most organisations have different levels of users, it follows that each level may have unique Content Filtering requirements and a one size fits all solution is not practical.

For instance, In an academic environment, teachers would probably fall into a different Content Management Profile to that of their students, the age of the students would likely also result in different profiles i.e. the older students would have a different profile to that of the younger ones.

A Content Profile is a combination of categories selected, Whitelist and/or Blacklist domains. Profiles can be applied to a group of different Source IP addresses.

To make use of the LucidView Content Profile feature, an Organisation simply NATS (Masquerades) to different Source Internet IP’s for different profiles to be applied. If the Organisation does not have many Internet IP addresses, or the ability to NAT, LucidView offers the option to organisations to VPN their DNS traffic into the LucidView cloud, allowing for private Internal range source IPs to access the LucidView DNS servers, and therefore accessing the ability of using multiple Content Profiles for different Internet IP ranges.

 

EFFECTIVENESS OF THE LUCIDVIEW DNS FILTER

The LucidView DNS service has proven to be extremely effective in most organisations when it comes to managing what content flows in and out of the network. Because the LucidView Cloud Service does not simply subscribe to lists but rather uses our designed a dynamic algorithm to continuously update the categories it is in most cases more effective than currently available category blocking solutions. The ability to create different profiles provides the Organisation with the ability and versatility to customise what content is accessible and to whom.

Using the LucidView Content Management service alone  will provide the Organisation with tools to ensure that undesirable content is controlled and managed.

As the Internet evolves and grows, so do the risks and challenges.  It is becoming more and more important to ensure that the Organisation is also protected from the threats posed by sophisticated content specifically designed to escape detection.  The TOR Network in particular is increasingly growing in popularity.  Torrenting is also becoming more sophisticated and harder to detect.

The LucidView Content Management service alone is not designed to address theses sophisticated tools.  However, used in conjunction with the LucidView Netflow Dashboard and the LucidView Threat Management services described below, LucidView can detect and thus prevent access to the TOR Network as well as prevent Torrenting.
